Customer context

A black Model X, booked online for a full-body film with the calipers done at the same time. The owner wanted a different colour without a vinyl wrap: DYNOgrey is a paint protection film with the colour in the film, so the car gets the new finish and the rock-chip protection in one layer.

What we did

  • Full exterior wash and chemical decon of the black paint before any film
  • STEK DYNOgrey colour-change paint protection film over the full body: hood, fenders, doors, quarters, bumpers, liftgate, roof, mirrors
  • Edges wrapped and tucked at every panel gap, so the grey reads as paint and no black shows at the seams
  • All four brake calipers wrapped in yellow, wheels off, before the wheels went back on

Process detail

  • The mid-install photo is the honest one: hood already grey, fenders still black. Colour-change film goes on panel by panel and the car looks like this for a day
  • Colour film is thicker work than clear film. A black panel showing through a stretched edge is a visible defect, so every edge is wrapped or tucked, never cut short on the panel face
  • Colour change in PPF versus a vinyl wrap: film is thicker, self-healing and takes rock chips; vinyl is a colour layer that needs protecting. Film costs more per car and is quoted to the car, never from a price list
  • Aftercare for satin film: pH-neutral wash, no wax, no polish, no dressings. Satin cannot be buffed back if it is scratched, which is why it lives under self-healing film
