Questions
What is a VIN verification?
A California DMV-accepted inspection (REG 31 form) that confirms the VIN on a vehicle matches its title, registration, or paperwork. Required for out-of-state, salvage, special-construction, kit-car, and some rebuilt vehicles being registered in California.
Who needs one?
You probably need a VIN verification if (a) you bought a car out of state and are registering it in CA, (b) you have a salvage / rebuilt / non-resident title transfer, (c) the DMV told you you need one, or (d) you're importing a kit car or special-construction vehicle.
In-shop or mobile?
In-shop at 3425 Ettie St Oakland — $85. We come to you (mobile) — $180. Mobile is faster if your vehicle isn't drivable, the title is in someone else's hands, or you're in Marin / Peninsula / South Bay.
What documents do I need?
Bring (1) the title or out-of-state registration, (2) your CA driver's license, (3) the vehicle (with VIN visible). Bring extra paperwork if salvage / rebuilt / lien-released.
How long does it take?
15-20 minutes for the verification itself. We hand you the completed REG 31 form on the spot. You take it to DMV (or your registration service) to complete registration.
Is the REG 31 form DMV-accepted statewide?
Yes — a CA-licensed verifier's REG 31 is valid anywhere in California. Innovo's owner Paul Rosas is a CA-licensed VIN verifier; the license is personal to him.
