A black S8 at the shop in Oakland. Black shows every swirl and every water spot, which is exactly what a coating is for.
What we did
- Full wash, iron decon and clay to clear bonded contamination before the coating
- P&S Inspiration STOUT ceramic coating across every painted panel
- Cure before the car went back on the road
Process detail
- Black paint has no colour to hide behind: anything on the surface reads as a defect, so the decon before coating matters more here than on a silver car
- STOUT is a high-solids coating with a strongly hydrophobic surface: water sheets off, dirt lets go on a rinse
- A coating is not a scratch shield. It is the layer that takes the sun, the bird droppings and the wash chemicals instead of the clear coat
- Aftercare: a Maintenance Wash every few weeks keeps the coating healthy
